Biography

1991 - With "Another Sleepless Nite," her first single for Aritisa Records, Shawn Christopher established herself as the new "DANCE MUSIC DIVA" to be reckoned with, thanks to her unique and refreshing vocal delivery, and tracks that rose above the competitive pack to become one of the year's biggest hits worldwide.

On Billboard's year end charts, "Another Sleepless Nite" was raked at #3 on the tally of top dance sales, placing higher than established artists like Madonna and L.L. Cool J. Lastly and most impressively, Christopher was the #2 club play artist of the year. "Another Sleepless Nite" video reached #17 on BET countdown list. All of that with merely one single.

Early 1992 was spent recording her first full-length album "Reaching for a Star".

Ms. Christopher proved herself as a song stylist and performer that transcended genre categorization. The fall of 1992 brought about the #1 Billboard smash "Don't Lose the Magic" single and the release of the album with such lush funk driven songs as 'Thinking about the Way", title song "Reaching for a Star", and the sentimental ballad "Angel Eyes". On the whole, the "Reaching for A Star" album is a sparkling collection that reveals true range and depth. Christopher says, "There are moments that should move your body and then there are moments that will hopefully touch your heart."

Shawn Christopher's musical history can be tracked to Chicago in 1982 when she recorded "It's Too Late", a single for the now defunct Larc Records. The track was an R & B ballad which earned regional success thus paving the way for the more dance oriented "Say It Again". Both songs were recorded at the famed Muscle Shoals Studio in Alabama. Shawn describes this experience as invaluable.

Christopher landed a spot in Chaka Khan's live band as a back up singer. She toured with Kahn worldwide from 1982-1985. Since then, Shawn has been featured on recordings and live stage show with Meli'sa Morgan, Vesta Williams, and Gavin Christopher (Shawn's brother). One of Shawn's most noted guest appearances was on Li'l Louis' club classic #1 hit worldwide "French Kiss".

The 1993 release of "Make My Love" on the Champion label put Christopher at #1 in the UK underground and as usual she popped up all over the charts. This tune has a life of its own. Without a domestic release in the states, Christopher still achieved top club play and regional success.

From 1994-1995 Shawn continued recording, touring, and writing. April of 1995 marked the worldwide release of "Night for Love". During 1995 Shawn joined her current ministry. She says, "Giving my life to God and being able to grow spiritually has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life." Shawn has been very active with the ministry as well as performing and touring to different churches around the country. When she's not on the road, she can be found recording at one of the jingle houses for television and radio advertisements.

1997 - Shawn joined forces with the already established band "Sonia Da Da". She immediately began recording and touring. "Sonia Da Da" is most noted for their triple platinum hit "You Don't Treat Me No Good No More".

In 1998, Shawn recorded "Sweet Freedom" for Hysteria Records/4 Play USA. "Sweet Freedom" went #1, not unusual for Christopher. With all of the success and exposure, out of nowhere came a 1999 remake of her second #1 hit "Don't Lose The Magic", produced by Erick Kupper. It went #4 on the Billboard.

In 2000, Christopher joined forces with renowned writer, producer, and singer Gavin Christopher (Shawn's brother). They have written and co-produced an amazing collection of soulful, heart-stirring songs. This project has been a dream of hers from the beginning of her career. The crossover from dance to R&B is unmistakably strong and geared for success.

April 2001, Shawn released her C.D. single "Touched by Your Love" with a stirring remix from D.J. Ricky Bradshaw.

2002. For the past year she has been working hard on her new album, which includes her single "Touched by Your Love". This new album, comprised of R&B, Soul, and Non-Traditional Gospel music, will also feature such soul-stirring ballads as "Blessed Assurance" and her new single "Came Into My Life". The new album is entitled "Drink From the Fountain". Shawn invites you to come and be refreshed.
